Beware of Scammers Posing as the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office

At Jack Rice Defense, we’re hearing from concerned clients and community members about a troubling scam making its way through Ramsey County. Individuals charged with criminal offenses are being targeted and contacted by people claiming to be from the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, demanding money in exchange for resetting court dates, securing bail, or continuing court appearances.

Let’s be absolutely clear:
This is a scam.

“If you get a call from the Ramsey County Sheriff asking for bail money, beware. Beware. This isn’t how the County operates.”

The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office does not call people to ask for money.
Not for:

  • Bail

  • Warrants

  • Court appearances

  • Parking tickets

  • Speeding fines

  • Jaywalking citations

  • Or anything else

Ramsey County sheriff, deputies, and staff will never ask for payment over the phone. No one legitimate in law enforcement does this. But scammers do — and they’re getting sophisticated. Some of them are even using real names of law enforcement personnel to make their lies sound more convincing.

If You Get a Call Like This:

  1. Hang up immediately.

  2. Do not provide any personal information or payment.

  3. Report the scam to local authorities or the Federal Trade Commission.

This type of fraud preys on people during already stressful times. We want you to be informed, vigilant, and safe. Please share this warning with everyone you know — parents, grandparents, neighbors, coworkers, and friends. The more people who are aware of these tactics, the fewer will fall victim to them.

“Sometimes, they may claim they need $900 or $1200 and this will go away. Do not fall for this. They will take your money and then you will still face charges.”

If you are facing criminal charges in Ramsey County and need legal representation, don’t navigate the system alone — and don’t fall prey to scammers. Contact Jack Rice Defense for a free, confidential consultation at 651-447-7650 or 612-227-1339.

We’re here to protect your rights and guide you through the process — honestly, ethically, and without ever asking for cash over the phone.
